Tape irrigation (drip tape) is a type of drip pipe specifically designed for drip irrigation, first produced about 50 years ago in the United States. Tape drip irrigation is very suitable for dense and row crops. It is used for drip irrigation of various vegetables, cucurbits, row plants, forage, etc., such as watermelon, tomato, onion, potato, corn, strawberry, and greenhouse crops. Tape drip irrigation is suitable for surface and shallow subsurface drip irrigation. For deep subsurface irrigation, the use of drip emitter pipes is recommended. The CP Plast embossed tape is suitable for drip irrigation of potatoes, corn, and similar plants.

Tape drip is made of polyethylene and usually each coil is several hundred meters long (1000 to 3000 meters). Unlike rigid polyethylene pipes, tape drip is very soft. In fact, tape drip has a soft and flexible texture that fills with water when irrigated and flattens again after irrigation ends. The wall thickness of tape drip is very thin, usually between 0.1 to 0.6 millimeters (each 0.1 millimeter is called 100 microns). Thicker tapes are generally used for subsurface irrigation of various plants.

Water droplets exit through emitters embedded on the tape; these emitters are also called plaques. The spacing between emitters varies in different tapes, usually between 10 to 60.

Applications of Tape Drip Tape drip is used for drip irrigation of row and seasonal crops such as tomato, pepper, potato, strawberry, onion, sunflower, melon, watermelon, sugar beet, corn, and other cucurbit products. Tape drip irrigation is also applicable in greenhouses.

Advantages of Using Tape Drip Irrigation Tape drip irrigation can be used in most fields and gardens. It does not require high water pressure and can be used in fields with limited unevenness without the need for land leveling. Also, tape drip can be installed mechanically during planting using a tractor.

The most commonly used tape drip irrigation tapes in terms of emitter spacing are those with 20 and 30 centimeters spacing.
