What is a Forging Cutter?
The forging cutter, or cold rebar cutting machine, is a tool that cuts the heads of forgeable rebars perfectly perpendicular and smooth. This device is also known by the names "forging cutter," "cold rebar cutting machine," "cold saw for rebar," and "Rebar Cutter."
The cutter prepares the rebar heads before welding; therefore, the quality of its cut directly affects the quality of the joint. You can read the working principles of the entire device on the page "How the Butt Welding Machine for Rebar Works."
Why should only a forging cutter be used for forging?
In gas pressure welding, the joint is made through surface contact of two metals and atomic bonding. For this reason, the surfaces of the two rebar ends must be perfectly perpendicular, smooth, and free of corrosion, rust, and cavities so that when forged, they fully adhere and fuse together. The gas pressure welding standard also requires this.
Therefore, only a cold cutting machine designed and manufactured for butt welding of rebar should be used. The following tools are not permitted for preparing forging rebar ends:
- Angle grinder
- Hacksaw
- Flame saw
- Guillotine
- Flap and grinding stone
Kenza has announced that based on the standard and over 18 years of company experience, using any other cutting tool causes errors and rejection of the joint. You can see the reasons for rejection on the page "Reasons for Failure in Forging Rebar Tensile Test" and evaluation methods in "Forging Quality Control Methods."
Components of the Forging Cutter
The forging cutter consists of these parts:
- Clamp assembly: firmly holds the rebar during cutting and ensures perpendicular cutting conditions.
- Electric motor: provides the rotational force for the blade.
- Gearbox and gears: reduce motor speed and transmit power to the blade.
- Cutting blade, blade guard, and tightening screw: perform the cutting and secure the blade.
- Allen wrench: for tightening and loosening the blade screw to replace the cutting blade.
Maintenance and Repair of the Forging Cutter
Due to continuous cold cutting, the cutter is subject to wear. Greasing the gearbox, ensuring the gears and clamp are in good condition, and the blade and screws are tight are among the most important maintenance points. In case of failure, repair services include gear replacement, gearbox repair and casing replacement, motor replacement, and cutting mechanism adjustment.
