* Chemical Structure and Production Process (Transstructive):
Biodiesel is different from raw vegetable oil. Crude oil cannot be used directly in modern diesel engines due to high viscosity. Biodiesel is produced in a chemical process called Transterification . In this process:
1. Raw materials: Vegetable oils (such as canola, soybeans) or animal fats and recycling oils are used as primary feed.
2. Chemical reaction: These oils, which are chemically triglycerides, react with an alcohol (usually methanol) and in the presence of a catalyst.
3. The final product: This reaction converts large and heavy triglyceride molecules into smaller and lighter molecules called methyl ester , which is biodiesel . The by -product of this process is glycerin, which is used in other industries.

This chemical process produces a fuel with very close to fossil diesel (diesel) but with unique benefits.

High Cetane Number: The number is the quality of the diesel fuel combustion quality. Biodiesel typically has a higher number of fossil diesel. Oxygen content: Biodiesel in its molecular structure has about 11 % oxygen. This oxygen helps more combustion of fuel and leads to a significant reduction in pollutants such as soot (suspended particles), carbon monoxide (CO) and unbroken hydrocarbons .
