Sodium sulfide is a chemical compound known as NA2S formula, or commonly known as NA2S • 9h2O. Both colorless salts are water that form very strong alkaline solutions.

Sodium sulfide and its hydrates when exposed to air moisture, release sulfide gaggen, which has a smell like rotten eggs.

Some of its industrial samples are sodium sulfide (NA2S • XH2O) with a certain weight percentage of sodium sulfide.

Common samples usually have about 60 % weight sodium sulfide (NA2S • 3H2O). Examples such as polyrphids have a relatively yellow appearance due to the presence of polyrphids, known as "sodium sulfide shells".

The main applications of sodium sulfide are:
1- Used in the manufacture of sulfur textile colors and in the dyeing of artificial textiles and silk. (Copper sulfate can also be used as an alternative)
2- In the leather industry (sodium sulfate can also be used as an alternative)
3. It is widely used in the paper industry, for example in the production of writing paper and newspapers.
