Sodium Terry Polyphosphate (STPP), with the NA5P3O10 formula, is a widely used additive in various industries. It is in the form of white and water -soluble powder and is used in detergents as a water conditioner and a performance improvement, used in the food industry as a preservative and stabilizer, in water purification to prevent pipe corrosion and in the ceramic industry as a lubricant.
Excessive use of sodium polyphosphate (STPP) can lead to nutrients in water sources. In short, this happens when the phosphates in STPP enters the water and cause the algae to grow unnecessarily. These algae decompose after death and consume water oxygen. Reducing water -soluble oxygen causes aquatic death and destruction of water ecosystems. For this reason, in some countries the use of STPP in detergents is limited.
